As our departure isgetting nearer, excitement grows in anticipation of new adventures.They are likely to happen. We expect a lot of adrenaline because theflood in Thailand, though not so dangerous as a few days ago, continues. Some districts in Bangkok, luckily not those of biggest interest to tourists, are under water. The Thai government warns tourists that they must be vigilant because the situation can change from day to day. We hope that during the first five days of our stay nothing bad will happen. Then we head for Malaysia and Cambodia and when we come back after almost two weeks there may be no trace of water. In Cambodia we'll visit two places, Siem Reap and a neighboring complex of temples in Angkor Wat as well as the capital, Phnom Penh.
Cambodia is the only country out of the three we'll visit, for which Poles need visa. Unfortunately in Poland there's no embassy or consulate of this country thus we must buy visa at the airport. On many blogs tourists warn against attempts to extort higher fees by the officials and against tricksters so we'll have to be on guard.
From Kuala Lumpur wetake a flight with Air Asia to Siem Reap and we'll go at once tovisit Angkor Wat. These unique ruins, remains of the Khmer rules scattered in the jungle are enlisted as UNESCO World Heritage Patrimony. All our friends who have seen this complex assured us that it's mandatory to visit it during our stay in Cambodia.
While in Phnom Penh we'll visit the local palace, national museum, temples, perhaps the museum of genocide but that will depend on the mood in which we'll be at the moment. On the one hand it's worth and necessary to visit places of that kind, but on the other hand – it's not a tourist attraction in the strict sense. Such places make us, Poles, realize that the extermination took place not only in the former Nazi concentration camp in Auschwitz-Birkenau.
Apart from that,we're going to take a cruise on the Mekong river. We think also about buying ourselves a massage in the National Centre for Disabled Persons.
From the first estimates, Cambodia will be the cheapest country to visit. Prices are much lower there than in Thailand and Malaysia.
